Need advice from past/present RV builders

Brian, it is very helpful to see your pictures! I am not seeing an oil filter. Did you decide not to have one because of the space limitations?

I think SPA is trying to get firewall forward photos from builders to share with the rest of us....no luck there?

If going the traditional Lycoming route, purchasing the the smaller component kits from Van's will get you some very good documentation. For instance the baffling, filtered air box, oil cooler, and manifold pressure kits all come with very detailed drawings and instructions that will get you most of the way there. The most complete documentation of course comes with the later RV models (e.g. -10, -12, -14) and in my case the RV-10 firewall forward documentation was detailed down each nut, bolt, screw and hose connection. For the Panther, I'm essentially duplicating my -10 install on a smaller scale.

Thanks! The big picture is pretty clear in my head. It is the finer details that I am lacking. Things that are not apparent until/unless someone has already thought this through. For example, what are the good places for firewall penetration, particulars of the hoses/wires routing, oil cooler installation details, air filter box installation, things to watch out for.

Regarding VAF forums, I think we are very lucky to have this treasure trove of information. One reason I am trying to be overly active here is to get this place going in a similar way.

I built an RV 4 25 years ago (can it really be that long?) with a factory stock 0-320. The one I'm putting in the LSA I'm building will be with electronic ignition and throttle body and whatever else I can afford to get some extra HP...I'm hoping for 170+ with 9:1 pistons...we'll see.

There is a wealth of knowledge on Van's forum to look at. Unfortunately there are SO many opinions and options to go with such as fuel injection and electronic ignitions and analyzers etc, etc......

Price is also a subject, because all the bells and whistles costs a lot. I just finished a project with an o-320 Lycoming, with electronic ignition and a GRT system. I'm very happy so far with all of it, and it was very cost effective.

Feel free to call anytime and we can discuss pros and cons of some installs.
