I think that it is worth using as the resulting hole is much tighter to the rivet than the standard dimpling dies. May not save time since you may still have to ream the hole, but hole/joint quality is better.

And the point of using the DIENQ, even if you have to ream to a #30, is that the other method of reaming to a #30 and then dimpling was resulting in a hole that was larger than the true #30 hole. Using the DIENQ results in a tighter fit rivet set - even if you do have to ream out to a #30.

are you using a burraway tool for deburring?

I am using the DIENQ die and need to ream out many holes to #30 to get the rivets in. Is the DIENQ die worth using? Toss-up.

In case you haven't seen the latest update on the FLYWITHSPA.COM update, I used the DIENQ dies and looked at the hole quality with a microscope. The results were surprisingly good, and I believe these will be the dies I will use for the rest of the plane.

Rick,

Yes that is the order I used, but you might find that #5 may not be necessary (at least for a majority of the holes).

Reamer verses drill bit is a personal choice and I don't believe that you'll need to de-bur again due to the limited amount of material that may need to be removed, just check to make sure they are still good to go.

I'm looking forward to putting this new process into action on my wings.

Andy - thanks for the info on the DIENQ, so the sequence you follow with this is:

1) Match drill to #40
2) Disassemble
3) Debur
4) Dimple with the DIENQ
5) Ream with a #30 reamer (not a #30 drill?), no more deburring?
6) Assemble and rivet

I received the above discussed dimple die today and tried it out on some scrap pieces. Works 4.0 and only one out of the eight samples I tried needed one hole to be reamed with a #30 after the dimple was squeezed. On all of the others the rivets dropped right in both holes with a perfect fit and good results.

The die provides a very nice clean dimple that seemed to produce some of the best flush rivet results I have personally done (but I'm only talking about one completed Panther tail kit at this point). I haven't had any issues with proud stems so I can't make a qualified observation on that side of the issue.

Seems like a good piece of gear but your results may vary!

Yes, that is the right part number "DIENQ" and it is not available on their site, but you can order one by calling them. I did and should be getting mine soon.

DAN W. Please let me know how to adjust the tension on the Burraway blade. I did not know that adjustment was available on it. I love that tool.

The "DIENQ" die will be shipped next week! If you are interested go to Cleveland's site and do a search for it and it will come up. Mike said yesterday that it is 1/2 is done, and the other will be done next week. The price is $50.
