Yes, I used the airbox you referenced from Van's and the E3211 K&N filter. It is working well. The box will need some modification. It will have to be cut down top to bottom and I had to extend the front of it about three inches to mate well with the cowl inlet. The smaller filter still provides plenty of air to the engine.

Hey Guys, thanks for the responses and help. I'm awaiting word from Dan as to whether or not SPA offers an alternative air box. There are a couple of references to such in the builders manual. If not I will use the Van's and the filter you referenced.

Had the same question, called and talked with Bob Woolley and used a different K&N filter that is about an inch shorter and cut the vans air box down to fi the filter. I have the 0-320 160 hp set also and this works fine. Sorry I can’t find the K&N part number for you I cut the number off the box and put it somewhere that I wouldn’t loose it. I’m sure I will run a cross it when I’m not looking for it.
You can go to K&N site and they list there filters by size and you can find one that is the right diameter and shorter then cut the air box down to fit. Bob was a wealth of information and always willing to help, he will be missed.

I'm nearing completion of a Tri-Gear with a Lycoming 0320. I have just a little less than 3 inches between the bottom cowl and the carb. I don't think the Van's airbox will fit well without a lot of modification and a much smaller filter.

What might any of you been using or doing here?
